An Advanced Summer School aimed for graduate and PhD students, post-docs, and young faculty who wish to update their knowledge in this area in a collaborative and cross-disciplinary environment, designed to facilitate scientific networking.

Creative cognition broadly refers to how human and non-human agents generate new ideas and face challenging problem solving. There is increasing evidence that traditional approaches to cognition are not best placed to measure the dynamic, complex and situated processes that underlie this key phenomenon. Progress in this field therefore requires a number of different perspectives to cohere to advance understanding. Interdisciplinary collaborations integrating philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, and design require trust, a shared vocabulary and an environment for constructive debate across disciplines.

The School will offer both the structured knowledge (through morning lectures) and the dynamic exchange of ideas around key questions in three thematic areas (through collaborative and interactive activities) necessary to advance understanding of how individuals generate novel and valuable ideas.

Moreover, key senior researchers in the European research community will be invited to generate a cross-generational collaborative environment, discussing and working on key topics on creative cognition. We aim to use this summer school as a starting point for the formation of a European Network of Experimental Creative Cognition researchers.
